The CZ 97 BD is a semi-automatic pistol made by Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod (CZUB) in the Czech Republic. First introduced in 1975, it is one of the original "wonder nines" featuring a staggered-column magazine, all-steel construction, and a hammer forged barrel. It has a good reputation amongst pistol shooters for quality and versatility at a reasonable price, and is widely distributed throughout the world. It is also the most common gun in the Czech Republic.

The CZ 97 BD is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. It uses the Browning linkless cam locking system similar to that used in the Browning Hi-Power pistol, where the barrel and slide are locked together on firing, using locking lugs milled into the barrel mating with recesses in the roof of the slide. An enclosed cam track integral with the barrel is actuated by the slide release lever's transverse pin. After the first few millimetres of the recoil stroke, the barrel is cammed downwards at the rear, enabling the slide to continue the recoil stroke and eject the spent cartridge.

Most models have the capability of being fired in both single and double action modes, and feature a frame-mounted manual safety. Some recent models have a decocking lever that doubles as a manual safety. Starting in the early 1990s, all CZ 97 BDs have been made with firing pin blocks, designated by the letter B (as in CZ 97 BDB).

The CZ 97 is a semi-automatic handgun introduced in 1997 in caliber .45 ACP. The CZ 97B is the big bore brother to the CZ 75B. Features include a screw-in barrel bushing and loaded chamber indicator. It retains all the functionality, ergonomics and accuracy of its smaller sibling. The CZ 97B carries a full 10 rounds in the double column magazine.

The CZ 97 is a further development of the famous CZ-75 pistol. CZ-97B had been developed by Ceska Zbrojovka - Uhersky Brod (CZ-UB) arms factory late in the 1990s especially for American market, where .45ACP is very popular. CZ-97B is mechanically identical to the CZ-75B, but has enlarged and slightly reshaped frame to accomodate thicker magazine and bigger cartridge.

CZ 97 is a recoil operated, locked breech pistol, with Browning-style, linkless locking and internal slide rails. It is double action, hammer fired pistol with frame mounted manual safety, automatic firing pin safety and hammer half-cock safety. It also featured loaded chamber indicator. Both frame and slide are made from steel.

CZ 97 is a high quality, accurate and reliable pistol, suitable for self-defence, police duty or practical sport shooting.
